Welcome to Bodice & Doublet
My dispatch from the shadowy crossroads of history and fantasy—where ballads hum in the wind, legends sharpen their swords, and every costume tells a story.
I’ve lived most of my life in that in-between place. My personal soundtrack? Renaissance polyphony and British Isles folk ballads. Celtic laments. Ghost-haunted Child Ballads. The intricate mathematics of Scarlatti. The spiritual weight of Bach.
I grew up enchanted by the old swashbucklers: Robin Hood with Errol Flynn’s impossible grin; Ivanhoe with its grit and glory; The Princess Bride, which perfectly stitched the romantic and the ridiculous. Later came Monty Python and the Holy Grail—absurd brilliance with chainmail—and Once Upon a Time, where fairy tales lived and breathed in modern-day cloaks.
I’ve donned my corset and velvet skirts and roamed Ren Faire lanes since my college days, dragging my own children with me, and more recently my grandkiddos, proudly sporting elfin ears and green cloaks.
Even in my own fiction, I find myself returning to that delicious tension between past and present, myth and memory, rational thought and the glimmer of the impossible.
